Policies and Expectations

Courteous behavior is expected at all times. Food and drink are not allowed in the library.

Students in grades 1-5 may conduct library business from 8:00am-8:10am Monday-Friday without a parent or caregiver.

Library staff does not provide after school supervision for students waiting for a sibling to be dismissed.
All students are welcome to visit the library after school in the company of a parent or caregiver:
2:45pm-3:30pm Monday       2:45pm-4:30pm Tuesday
The library is not open after school on Wednesday.
2:45pm-4:30pm Thursday       2:45pm-4:30pm Friday

Students visit the library once a week with their class to listen to a story, practice library skills, and check out books.
In addition, students in grades 3-5 may visit the library every day during first recess to check out materials, get started on homework assignments, conduct research, play board games, draw, read or relax.

Kindergartners check out one book to be read in the classroom.
Parents of Kindergarten students are encouraged to establish an account at the school library so that materials may be checked out and taken home to enjoy.  So as not to disrupt someone else's library class time, Kinder families may visit between 7am-8am on Monday or after 2:45pm Monday-Tuesday-Thursday-Friday.

First graders check out one book which they may take home; second graders may check out two books; third graders may check out three books; fourth graders may check out four books; and fifth graders may check out five books.
Materials are due back the following week, or may be renewed for an additional week as long as no one has requested the title.  Once the grade-level maximum is reached, items must be returned in order to check out more materials.

Overdue notices are sent home periodically, typically by email.
While there is no fine for overdue books, if a book is lost or damaged it must be paid for; the replacement cost of the book is quoted on the overdue notice.
Please pay with exact cash or with a check made out to MBUSD, and send the payment to school in an envelope marked "Library."  The payment is refundable if a lost book is found and returned during the current school year.
Students who owe money to the library risk losing the privilege of borrowing more materials and will not receive their final report card.
