The story of puppeteer Tony Sarg, the man who first invented the helium balloons that have become the trademark of the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

After World War I, Sarg moved to New York City and quickly gained a reputation as a practical joker, the life of the party and a tireless worker. In his various ventures, the designer, inventor and illustrator worked on cartoons, children’s books, mechanical toys, advertising, and window displays and balloons.

Ojos de Dios were made by the Huichol, an indigenous group in Mexico, during the 15th century and have become a popular southwest holiday tradition. The Huichol considered them good luck and used them for protection. The Huichol people have strong connections to the land, and their spiritual beliefs are aligned with nature. The four ends of the Ojos de Dios represent water, fire, air and earth. Video directions using sticks and yarn

Amanda S. C. Gorman is an American poet and activist. Her work focuses on issues of oppression, feminism, race, and marginalization, as well as the African diaspora. Born in 1998, Gorman is the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history. The Hill We Climb calls for unity, collaboration, and togetherness, giving thoughts to consider during No Place for Hate Week.

TK class visits will begin later in September due to the shorter days the first two weeks of school, Labor Day, and another minimum day. Wilder on 9/9 and Putich on 9/13.

Karas and Deragisch begin this week. Brancato and Britton will begin after the Labor Day Holiday due to the short day schedule the first two weeks of school.

You Are My Friend, the Story of Mister Rogers and His Neighborhood, by Aimee Reid
Fred Rogers (1928-2003) was the creator, showrunner, and host of the preschool television series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, which ran from 1968 to 2001. As a child he was bullied at school, but with the support of his family he grew up to become a champion of compassion, equality, and kindness.

The mayor of the noisy city of La Paz institutes new laws forbidding all singing, but a brave little rooster decides he must sing, despite the progressively severe punishments he receives for continuing to crow. The silenced populace, invigorated by the rooster's bravery, ousts the tyrannical mayor and returns their city to its free and clamorous state.
