"Sequoyah: the Cherokee Man Who Gave His People Writing"

In the first story, a subway trip is transformed when a young boy happens upon a book about
redwood forests. As he reads the information unfolds, and with each new bit of knowledge,
he travels-- all the way to California to climb into the Redwood canopy.

The second book introduces Sequoyah, who gave the Cherokee language a written form
in the early 1800s.  Creating 84 symbols for sounds, he began to teach the language
to others in the Cherokee nation. This technique spread, enabling the publication of
books and newspapers, and it survives today.
