Return of the Readathon | March 2023

From Principal Tara Grings | 3/12/23

Let's Do This!
I know our students and parents love healthy competition. As an educator, there is nothing healthier than cultivating a love of reading. Bringing reading and competition together seems like a WIN! So, I am excited to announce the 2023 Grand View Readathon. In addition to promoting reading, the Readathon is a great way for us to raise money for our PTA. All funds raised will go to expenses for this school year including field trips, classroom supplies, technology enhancements and more! I can't wait to see how we do. GO GATORS!

Important Dates
  • 3/10 and 3/13 Teachers announce the Readathon to their classes; they may set a suggested reading goal for their class
  • 3/13 Parents receive sign-up link from PTA
  • 3/13 - 3/15 Parents and students send out donation requests
  • 3/15 READING BEGINS!
  • 3/15 - 3/30 Students track reading time in the system
  • 3/15 - 3/30 Students in 1st-5th grade may borrow double the usual number of library books allowed at a time

Request Donations
  • Students set a personal goal. Five books, or 500 minutes, or one hour per day, for example, however they wish to mark their progress
  • Students then ask family and friends to support their overall goal with a set donation
  • The average donation could be anywhere from $25 to $200 or even more
  • We hope each student will achieve $100 in donations
  • Requesting donations is done directly from within the Readathon website
Track Reading
  • Once your child is registered you will be able to track their reading time via the website
  • The Readathon begins 3/15 so remember to register before then
Earn Rewards
  • Top fundraising reader in the school wins a Kindle Fire and their name on the Grand View marquee
  • Top fundraising reader in each grade wins a $50 gift certificate to Simms Group Restaurants
  • Top reader (most minutes) in each grade wins a book prize from Pages Bookstore
  • Top fundraising class in the school wins a donut delivery party
  • All students who participate will receive a special gift during the first week of the Readathon
  • Rewards will be announced and awarded April 14

The 2021 Readathon fundraiser has ended and by all accounts --both in minutes read and monies raised-- our Great Gator Readers and Donors have exceeded our wildest expectations!
Winners and final numbers will be announced after Spring Break.
