WHAT IS SUPER LITERACY QUIZ BOWL?
  • SLQB is a fast-paced trivia game based on books from the SLQB reading list
  • Students in the same grade level compete as teams
  • Students will be placed randomly into teams within their class at the event
  • Third grade will play in the PAC on March 26, 2025 from 9:00-10:25 | Signed registration form due March 17, 2025
  • Fourth grade will play in the PAC on May 29, 2025 from 8:25-10:25 (new date/time) | Signed registration form due May 19, 2025
  • Registration forms (required to participate at the event) will be available in the library and the Gator Gazette after winter break
WHAT DO STUDENTS GET FOR PLAYING?
  • All competitors receive a beanie with an exclusive SLQB patch
  • Members of the winning teams earn a beanie of a different color
  • Members of the winning teams earn an ice cream party for their entire classroom
HELPFUL HINTS
  • Start reading! All titles are available at the Grand View library. Picture books and nonfiction titles stay in the library to be read there. Novels will be circulated in a timely manner so everyone gets a chance to read them.
  • You may check out books from the public library; or consider purchasing them to keep.
  • Take notes. Dedicate a notebook for all your SLQB books. It will be really helpful for review prior to the competition. Notes, however, will not be allowed during the competition.
  • Keep track of straightforward information such as the name of the author or illustrator. List character names for each book. Jot down sequence and timeline of events. These are the kinds of details that will help you during the game.
  • Read everything in the book. This means the supplementary pages, such as the forward and the afterword, that are often included in nonfiction books. The "extra stuff" makes for great SLQB questions!
  • Have fun!
Thank you to former Pennekamp Library Resource Specialist Barbara Siegemund-Broka and to Pennekamp/Mira Costa parent Jiyeon Im
for bringing this popular Pennekamp event to all the MBUSD elementary schools, thanks to a grant from MBEF.
Ms. Barbara will introduce the event to our 3rd and 4th graders during their library class visit the week of November 4, 2024.
A practice game for 3rd graders will take place in the library during the class visit the week of January 27, 2025.
