Thanks to our friends at Pages Bookstore, author Ernesto Cisneros will speak to our 4th graders about the writing process the morning of Monday, May 2, 2022. He will speak to each class in the library for 30 minutes at 10:30, 11:00, and 11:30.

Mr. Cisneros was born and raised in Santa Ana, California, where he still teaches reading and writing to middle school students. As an author, he believes in providing today's youth with an honest depiction of characters with whom they can identify. The real world is filled with amazing people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives and his work strives to reflect that. His first book, Efren Divided, is the 2021 Pura Belpre Award winner.

Families may purchase copies of the books (signed and personalized if requested) using this link provided by Pages. Books will be delivered to school on the day of the presentation.

Falling Short (2022)
Marco and Isaac are best friends who are complete opposites. Marco is short, excels academically, and is bad at sports. Isaac is tall and athletic, but struggles in school. The boys attempt to navigate middle school and their own personal family issues, all while trying to avoid falling short of their goals. Told through alternating points of view, this novel about expectations illuminates a beautiful and endearing friendship.

Efren Divided (2020)
7th grader Efren Nava worries about his undocumented parents who have worked hard to secure a safe life for their family. When his mother is arrested and deported to Mexico, Efren must help take care of his siblings, manage money, and be strong for his father, all while keeping up at school and helping his friend David get elected as class president. A story that celebrates resiliency, kindness, and community. Winner of the 2021 Pura Belpre Award, presented by the Association for Library Services to Children, a division of the American Library Association.
