And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, by Dr. Seuss
Marco struggles to report truthfully to his father the events of his day, rather than embellish the dull sights in order to make for a more exciting tale. Published in 1937, this first book for children by Dr. Seuss was rejected by 27 publishers before being accepted by Vanguard Press.

Discuss When the book finally made it to the shelves, some people thought it was unsuitable for children, saying the story encouraged the telling of lies. In fact, the book is about an active imagination; Marco tells the truth at the end. However, in March 2021 Seuss Enterprises pulled Mulberry Street from publication along with five other works by Seuss due to the inclusion of imagery they deem as "hurtful and wrong." Talk about the removal in the context of the No Place for Hate Pledge (coming next week) and how it can sometimes take many years to rectify a wrong.
