Thanks to GVPTA, we enjoy new books about mathematical concepts, toys, etc. that won't stimulate bad dreams! Here are two disturbingly eerie examples of older nonfiction:
Shapes, by Miriam Schlein
Lots of things are round, and lots more are square, but people and animals are never exactly round or square. Published in 1952.
Dolls, Dolls, Dolls, by Shirley Glubok
Published in 1975, this book unwittingly presents the stuff of nightmares by tracing the history of dolls from ancient Egyptian paddle dolls to stylish fashion dolls and mechanical dolls, each era featuring dolls creepier than the last.
