Hero in the Hallway Kindness Nominations Continue

Hero in the Hallway Kindness Nominations When we perform acts of kindness, we can make the world into the better place that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. envisioned. Students, teachers, and staff are invited to be on the look out for everyday heroes in the hallway performing kindnesses large and small and nominate them for recognition at the Kindness Assembly on February 5th. The nomination forms and collection box are in the library.

American Library Association Youth Media Awards
Each year the American Library Association honors books, videos, and other outstanding materials for children and teens. Recognized worldwide for the high quality they represent, the ALA Youth Media Awards, including the prestigious Newbery, Caldecott, Printz, and Coretta Scott King Book Awards, guide parents, educators, librarians, and others in selecting the best materials for youth. Selected by committees composed of librarians and other literature and media experts, the awards encourage original and creative work in the field of children’s and young adult literature and media.
Time and Place
The 2020 Youth Media Award announcements will take place on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, at 8 a.m. ET from the Pennsylvania Convention Center, in Philadelphia. Fans can follow the action live at

Malala's Magic Pencil, by Malala Yousafzai
This picture book by history's youngest Nobel Prize laureate describes how as a child in Pakistan (born 1997) she wished for a magic pencil to make others happy and to make her home cleaner and safer. In her young lifetime she has already experienced devastating changes to her country, which has been transformed into a hotbed of terrorism. Malala now lives in Birmingham, England and devotes her life to the good of the people her belief that all girls everywhere deserve an education.
