New MBUSD Committee to Focus on Equity Recent events around the nation have sparked a new level of reflection in our community about racial injustice. The MBUSD Board of Trustees approved goals for the 2020-21 school year which include a new focus on identifying, strengthening, and incorporating diverse resources to support the district's emphasis on equity, diversity, social justice, critical reflection, and inclusion. A committee of educators, parents, and students is forming to examine how best to move forward in this direction. Those interested in joining the Equity Committee should complete this INTEREST FORM and submit it by 10/30. Whether or not you participate as a committee member, thank you for joining us in this work.

Samuel Morse, that's Who! The Story of the Telegraph and Morse Code, by Tracy Nelson Maurer
Samuel Morse was not an instant success. He wanted to be a painter, but when his career in America didn't take off, he sailed to England in 1829 to study. People still did not seem to get his art when he returned, but they were very interested in the electromagnetic system to carry coded messages that he had designed on the voyage home. It took trial and error, but eventually Morse invented Morse code (later modified and renamed International Morse Code) and the telegraph machine. News that once had taken months to reach it's destination now could travel in the blink of an eye.
