A Is for Musk Ox,
by Erin Cabatingan

Musk Ox takes over an alphabet book, explaining to Zebra why almost every letter can be used to describe musk oxen.
Crafty Connection Make an alphabet book following the model set down by Musk Ox. Use words beginning with every letter of the alphabet to describe how awesome you are or that tell what you like!  Write the words, or cut out pictures of things you like. For example, A is for Heidi because Heidi is Awesome, and B is for Heidi because Heidi likes Books, and C is for Heidi because Heidi likes Cats. Can you think of 26 words, each beginning with a different letter of the alphabet to describe yourself or things you like? See how many you can get!

Picture
Grand View Library will begin checking out books to 4th grade students beginning Friday, 11/6. We will add more grade levels as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience. 4th grade students will be taught the hold process on 10/29 during their Library Zoom sessions.
Today, students will be shown how to:
  • Navigate to the catalog from the library website
  • Log in using their unique username and generic password
  • Search for a book and place it on hold
  • Rate a book and write a brief review
  • Log out and create a personal password (recommended)
  • Video Here are the steps as explained by Mrs. Primm, the Library Resource Specialist at Meadows Elementary. The process is the same --just select the Grand View Library Catalog when prompted, rather than the Meadows Library Catalog.
Steps to pick up the holds:
  • Holds may be picked up every Friday, beginning 11/6, from the bench by the Grand View front office, from 11:15am-12:30pm.
  • Face coverings must be worn. Maintain social distance.
  • Holds will be wrapped to maintain cleanliness and will have the student's name on them.
  • Books may be returned Monday-Friday to the Book Drop outside of the front office between 8:00am-1:00pm.
  • Returned books will be quarantined following American Library Association guidelines and cleaned before being checked out again.

New MBUSD Committee to Focus on Equity Recent events around the nation have sparked a new level of reflection in our community about racial injustice. We recognize that simply acknowledging systemic and institutional racism is not enough. We must act. The MBUSD Board of Trustees approved goals for the 2020-21 school year which include a new focus on identifying, strengthening, and incorporating diverse resources to support the district's emphasis on equity, diversity, social justice, critical reflection, and inclusion. A committee of educators, parents, and students is forming to examine how best to move forward in this direction. Those interested in joining the Equity Committee should complete this INTEREST FORM and submit it by 10/30. Whether or not you participate as a committee member, thank you for joining us in this work.
